Well Here is my list of  “Great Times Of Old” for us Gen Xers and older! Enjoy!!

* No late night sex ads! You could stay up late with your parents and watch old black and white movies!

* No reality TV! People actually used to write scripts and people acted. Nida was a big deal – now it’s the size of your chest or lack of brain cells!

* Morning TV! We had cartoons. Flintstones, Jetsons, Smurfs, He man and Shera! Cartoon Connection with Alex Wileman and Michael Pope,  anyone?

* Afternoon TV! Yes kids could watch it and enjoy! Fraggle Rock, Curiosity Show, Simon Townesend Wonderworld etc. Even family shows like Perfect Strangers, Henderson Kids, Brady Bunch, Bewitched, Jeannie, Growing Pains and Family Ties.

* Comedy Shows! C’mon Comedy Company, Kev Kevanagh Show, Full Frontal etc. It was so well written and a great laugh.

* Aussie Drama – Country Practice, Rafferty’s Rules and even Prisoner had subjects you could discuss and enjoy.

* ACA – Remember Willisee? ACA was more hard hitting. We had little Quentin, real stories about real people, PM’s would even be on. Now tabloid journalism.

* Bad but great TV. Remember Chances, Pacific Drive, Paradise Beach, Richmond Hill and even Prisoner , E Street, Sons and Daughters. All terrible acting yet addictive.

* Good old baddies. The killer Mr Bad I think in EStreet, Paradise Beach killer, Pat the Rat, The Freak, Laura Palmers Bob? We actually had shows with suspense.

* Movie night. I remember when ET was first shown and the whole neighbourhood was excited. Where are the recent movies? I know paytv gets them first but still, not all have the movie channels or subscribed tv at all.

* The 3D nights were a lot of fun. Get your glasses in TV week and watch a movie with those silly paper glasses! They looked terrible but were such fun. Do kids have slumber parties anymore ? Curious.

* Mini Series – Vietnam, Borderline, Bangkok Hilton, Emerald City, Thorn Birds and anything Sigrid Thornton. Return to Eden was a great mini series that turned into a weekly show. What happened to the mini series?

* Music shows – Thank God we still have rage. We used to have Sounds, the Johnno and Danno one, Countdown, Countdown revolution. Is downloading responsible?

* Death of the sitcom. Besides How I Met Your Mother, Scrubs, Earl – where is it? Friends, Frasier, Seinfeld, Cheers, Growing Pains, Family Ties, Who’s The Boss, Perfect Strangers, Ellen and all?

* Talk shows were non existant! No The View, Ellen, Oprah, Dr Phil, Trish etc. (Must admit am fan of Ellen and the View)

* We had late night talk shows – IMT, Kennedy, Steve Vizard, Arsenio Hall (remember?) . What happend – now stars can only go to Rove.

* HEY HEY! Hey Hey was lame but Red faces and Plucka were/are institutions! Remember you watched hey hey AND then went out. What can we watch at 6.30pm now on a Saturday?

* Ads were reliable?!?! We had Mrs Marsh for Colgate, Peter Russell Clark asking whwere’s the cheese? and Demtel with the steak knives!

Anyway in my day you didn’t see boobs for ratings or hear swearing on Australias Funniest Home Videos ( Pissed was said the other night I was watching with 2 1/2 yr old) I’m not a prude AT ALL – but still! TV was better – if it was scheduled we knew it would be on, We could watch entire series, life was easier and not so complicated.
